It was another long night for the Chaska Cubs as they play in another marathon of a game. It was a 13 inning contest with Prior Lake in a battle of the unbeaten's. The game was not decided until well past the three hour mark. The decision, however, did not end up in Chaska's favor. It was nine innings before either team plated their first run, and it happened to be Chaska who struck first. In the top of the ninth, leadoff hitter Greg Lane drew a walk to start the inning. His brother, Tony, laid a beautiful bunt down the first base line, and as a result, the Jays threw the ball away to make everyone safe. With runners on first and third, and nobody out, Justin Johnson hit one back to the pitcher who threw to second to get Tony on a force play. Same situation, now, with one out. Kyle Geason hit a ground ball up the middle which was snagged and an attempted double play could not get him at first. Greg would score from third to put Chaska up 1-0. That is all they would get in the top half, so it was on to the the bottom half. Cubs' starter Matt Lane would continue to pitch strong as he would get the first two batters out. With two outs and nobody on, a pinch hitter hit a line shot off Lane to right field for a double. The next batter would hit a two-strike worm burner through Matt's legs and into center field to bring the tying run home. The score would remain 1-1 into the bottom of the 13th when Prior Lake would put the game away. With one out and men on first and third, Cubs reliever Brad Keenan induced a ground ball to Oscarson's right at second base. The guy on third took off for home, and because of a extremely wet ball, the runner beat the throw and ended the game. Prior Lake's starter went the entire game throwing 190+ pitches! Cubs' starter Matt Lane went nine, and Brad Keenan closed out the last three. Chaska's hitting struggles continued as they managed only one hit through nine and three total on the evening. Chaska will face the winner of Victoria and Shakopee on Friday night for one last chance to make it to State.
